2015 in review

Hi dear friends from around the world! Thanks for taking time to visit my Blog posts in 2015!

Heres the WordPress.com report for http://www.mylifewiththemasters.wordpress.com

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2015 annual report for this blog.

Wishing you all a wonder filled 2016!

All my best, Kristen

Here’s an excerpt:

The concert hall at the Sydney Opera House holds 2,700 people. This blog was viewed about 17,000 times in 2015. If it were a concert at Sydney Opera House, it would take about 6 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.

Paintings by Richard Schmid & Nancy Guzik orbit planet Earth aboard the International Space Station!

Paintings by the well known American Artists, and husband and wife team, Richard Schmid and Nancy Guzik, are now aboard the International Space Station (ISS) orbiting Planet Earth every 93 minutes!

The art/science journey initially began when James Nadir, a Silicon Valley engineer who retired from Intel invited Richard Schmid and Nancy Guzik to create 1.25” x 1.25” paintings to be placed into a small space capsule aboard the International Space Station. An artist himself, Mr. Nadir mentors an ISS program at Valley Christian High School in San Jose, California.

An earlier attempt to send their art (and artwork by Richard’s granddaughter, Samantha) to the International Space Station (ISS) failed when The Falcon 9 supply rocket carrying the artwork exploded shortly before achieving orbit. Undaunted, Richard and Nancy made a new set of paintings for a second attempt, which was successful.

On December 6, 2015, the experiments and the new artworks by Nancy and Richard were successfully launched aboard an Atlas V Rocket carrying Orbital Science’s Cygnus Capsule to rendezvous with the ISS. On Dec 9th, The Cygnus Capsule arrived at the ISS and was pulled in by the robotic arm.

After breathing a sigh of relief at this successful operation, Jim Nadir remarked, “So it’s now OK to say Richard Schmid and Nancy Guzik have the fastest art in the world!” He added, “What is important is not only that their art is orbiting our planet, but they also have dedicated it to the bright young people who get themselves involved in the arts and sciences. There is a real world out there waiting, filled with beauty and wonder, which can only be experienced by being part of it.”

The experiments along with the artworks are now orbiting the earth every 93 minutes. This art/science wonder is expected to circle the earth 330 times, with a speed of 17,500 mph, an altitude of 221 miles, and traveled 9 million miles! If the mission is extended, it could be closer to 25+ million miles.

Valley Christian High School program is open to all schools, and currently has high school students from all around the world from Finland to Indonesia participating with their experiments. If you wish to help or have your school participate, contact Werner Vavken at 100 Skyway Drive, San Jose, CA. Email: wvavken@vcs.net

You can still see the Orbiting Fine Art Gallery in the sky, though it will look like a slow moving star. To see when the ISS is visibly passing overhead in your location, visit NASA at: http://spotthestation.nasa.gov/sightings/#.Vni_zzbSlbp

Cygnus Capsule arrives ISS copy

Richard and Nancy’s artwork along with the experiments arrived at the ISS. It is aboard the Cygnus Capsule about to be pulled in by the robotic arm.

In addition to my enthusiasm for Richard and Nancy’s art now orbiting the Earth, I’m also really excited to announce the dates for a fantastic New event to honor Richard Schmid and the beauty of Nature next September in Denver, Colorado-

SAVE THE DATE: SEPTEMBER. 24, 2016!

I promise you won’t want to miss this historic event! More details to come–once the schedules are final…

Here are a few words from Richard Schmid as well.
“As we go into 2016, Nancy and I wish all of you a wonderful new year and that your art will continue to enrich your lives. This new year is especially rewarding because of the honor we feel that our paintings are circling the earth aboard the International Space Station. When I first went to art school to learn how to paint better, I never imagined what that seemingly modest goal would lead to. My wish for you, my friends from around the world, is that your journey in the world of art will also bring you into places of fascination you may not think possible now.”
Keep the Faith,
Richard, and of course Nancy
